https://www.patreon.com/drewsobsessions You're growing a beard but all you have is hair shampoo. Should you be using it on beard too? In this video I talk about the difference, the benefits and the importances of using a specialized beard shampoo rather than your ordinary head shampoo. co-washing is more important than shampooing , just use baby shampoo once a week , squatch pine tar soap once a month , condition six days , simple . On the 7th day - rest and do nothing with your beard.

Excellent advice Ian. Thanks!

I can't seem to find much selection locally as far as beard shampoo goes, and they all seem to have very strong smells. Do they make any that have no scent? I ended up just using regular shampoo last year. Starting my beard again this year and figured I should do things right this time.

Cool I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Drew's Obsessions (5 months ago)
Hey Red Squirrel. If you are looking for a beard wash without much of a scent, I would try Beard Guyz Daily wash. I use it almost daily and if you pair with the conditioner I don't think you'll be disappointed...it just leaves your beard feeling clean.

What would baby shampoo do? I used body wash until mine got to about a foot a a half in length. Then, I tried various shampoos and conditioners. When I tried Jack Block's All Over Wash it said it was good to beards, and it was fine. Then, JB shipped me a sample of their beard wash which seemed to tangle my beard whilst washing. Recently I felt like trying beard wash again when I saw Best Beard and Face Wash Ever in a grocery store. Then I tried Beard Guyz from Walmart and actually liked how I never tangles my hair in the shower.

Hi Richard. I am a huge fan of Beard Guyz. I haven't experienced the tangling like you mentioned but now that I am growing my hair long, I am sure that will come up. I've never thought of using baby shampoo...but I am sure it would work and be very gentle. Thanks for the comment!
I'm with you about not stripping the oils, but consider that beards with product are often greasier than the hair on our head. In fact, I prefer to rinse with hot water and let the oil residues remain, shampooing no more than once a week. By the way, baby shampoos seem to be pretty gentle; I've reviewed a couple recently. Great to see your beard channel rockin' Drew, and tweard on!

cowash is better. aka conditioner n shampoo or beard wash once twice a week at most. conditioner is less harsh on beard

Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Bonjour Mon Ami! Don't worry about your accent. I have been thinking about doing something interesting around minoxidil. So I will definitely keep it in mind for a future video. Thanks again man!

Well informed video! I remember by using the hair shampoo on my beard back in a day when there's no beard shampoo invented, and it was so dry, and it wasn't good at all. Glad that beard shampoo really helps and able to notice the difference.
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Thanks as always Billy:)
Bboy Loyd (10 months ago)
would it be better to use a beard shampoo on my head hair than a simple hair shampoo
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Depends on how oily your hair and scalp get. A beard shampoo is designed for less oily skin so it may not be powerful enough for your hair...but perhaps
LPPrince (10 months ago)
I apply a beard wash in the shower, and before work I apply beard oil and then beard butter. The oil and butter before work get worked in with a boar bristle beard brush.
LPPrince (10 months ago)
By the way, thanks for the quality content. I learn a thing or two from these videos and then pass them on to whomever is asking questions about beard care.
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Awesome man...sounds like you treat it well.
Kevin Parker (10 months ago)
thanks drew for the info. I work with someone that thinks i'm crazy for using beard shampoo and pine tar soap or any other beard products. He Says it all works the same and you are just throwing money away on it. He has a ratty beard full of bearduff and still complains of itch. I am a firm believer of products and will not ever go without and i am always complimented on how well my beard looks. Proof is in the looks and by the way your beard is awesome brother.
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Such a great comment! Thanks Kevin. I like that, "Proof is in the looks"
Good video Drew, I love using a beard wash and a beard conditioner right after, Cheers.

Mark Cress (10 months ago)
Great video as usual. Question: can beard wash be used on head hair as well? I’d like to be as low maintenance as possible. Lol
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Hi Mark, there are lots of other great products out there...however it really comes down to the oiliness of each person's own hair and beard. If you have really oily hair, then you might want 2 separate products as beard shampoo won't be strong enough for your hair or vice versa. If your hair is drier and coarser you could probably get away with just one natural product as Matthew says.
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Great Advice.
Matthew Pearson (10 months ago)
Mark Cress Hey Mark there are companies that make all natural all in one soaps that are meant to be used in our beards, bodies and head hair. I use them and love the convenience and performance. Hope this helps bro. Be well
Phil Shaw (10 months ago)
I found proper beard shampoo is way better than hair ones... videos getting better & liking the production 😎😉👍🏻
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Thanks for the motivation Phil :) I'm just trying to have a little more fun with it...it's a work in progress :)
Matthew Pearson (10 months ago)
Good, informative video Drew. Personally I use an all in one bar soap. There are several companies that make them from all natural ingredients that are perfect for your beard , body and head hair...especially helpful when travelling or camping etc. Rocky Mountain Barber Co. out of Calgary is my fav. Be well my friend.
Drew's Obsessions (10 months ago)
Very good point Matthew. I should have mentioned that...you can still find good products for your beard that are sold in stores. They don't have to be exclusively from a beard brand.
